I would appreciate some quick setting tips that manual is so huge I can never get around to reading it. I have a problem taking portraits indoor, low light, they are not very clear ..grainy. ISO is set to auto … What you advice?
    Thank you very much.

      Laura,

Unfortunately when shooting indoors (without flash) your photos will be susceptible to image noise. There’s really no way around it other than upgrading to a digital SLR with a larger image sensor. The image sensor inside the FZ100 is very small compared to a DSLR. The smaller the image sensor, the more noise it will exhibit in low light situations.

Lower ISO’s lead to cleaner results, but using low ISO indoors without a tripod is basically pointless. The FZ100 needs enough light to expose the scene, so when using lower ISO indoors it will choose a very slow shutter speed to let more light into the camera. Longer shutter speeds lead to camera shake and subject blur.

When you increase the ISO indoors, the FZ100 is able to use faster shutter speeds which will reduce subject blur and ensure sharp results. The problem is that higher ISO’s lead to noisier images.

Your only option to improve low light portraits with the FZ100 is to mount an external flash and bounce the light off your ceiling. I’d recommend the Panasonic FL360 (see here). This flash is powerful enough to emit a bright enough flash to illuminate a small to medium sized room. By bouncing the light off the ceiling, you’ll be creating a more natural light which will greatly improve the look of your indoor shots.

      Happy shooting!
