Panasonic announced the new Lumix FZ40 on July 21, 2010, with an official release date on September 8, 2010. Check out my post on FZ40 availability to get the latest “in stock” status updates.
What’s up with the release date for the Panasonic FZ 40? I have waited six weeks to buy a camera and the end of August approaches and still can only pre-order with Amazon. Maybe the Nikon Coolpix P100 is the way to go?
I talked to one of my Panasonic Reps and it seems there’s a hold-up with shipments to the USA. The FZ40 is available in certain locations worldwide, but here in the US it looks like the launch date has been delayed by almost a month. It sounds like the FZ40 will start hitting store shelves sometime in mid September.

Hi Karen, Don’t do it!! I’ve been enjoying a nice FZ28 – but got seduced by the Nikon name & reputation and recently bought a P100 from Costco. I did a series of comparison images in my home, only to be woefully disappointed with the P100′s image quality. It simply wasn’t in the same league as my FZ28 for image sharpness and clarity. I was forwarned by many similar complaints by Amazon reviewers, but had hoped their complaints were caused by not yet knowing how to use the P100. Costco was happy to accept it back in two days. PS: I’ve never returned any other piece of photographic equipment before, so suggests I’m not all that hard to please. But darn it, it just didn’t measure up to my obsolete FZ28. My advice is to hang in there and wait for your FZ40!!
