I was wondering what the lag time for the FZ40 is when shooting in RAW, ISO 80, bright sunshine–short or long?

      Roberto,

I’ve been busy with some commercial photography work the last few weeks. I’m hoping to get some testing done after the holidays, stay tuned!

How does this camera (Panasonic FZ 40) compare to the Nikon Coolpix P100? For a novice who wants to take pictures of my teenage daughter cheering (with out going to photography school to learn all the technical stuff) which one would you buy?

      Karen,

The FZ40 and P100 are very similar. The P100 has a focal range of 26mm-678mm, so it has a slightly farther reach than the FZ40…although not by much. The FZ40 is slightly wider when shooting at wide-angle, but again…not by much. So the zoom range is very similar in my opinion. Both cameras have a 3 inch LCD screen, however, the P100 screen can rotate which may help you shoot pics of your daughter when she’s cheer-leading. If there are people in front of you (bleachers), you can angle the LCD down and shoot with the camera over your head. As for image quality, both cameras produce very similar results both in sharpness and low light ability. I will say that the Panasonic cameras tend to produce slightly pinkish skin tones. The pinkish skin tones can be adjusted in-camera or in photo editing software, but this may become a hassle for you. Nikon tends to produce more natural looking skin tones, but again this can be adjusted in-camera or in a photo editing program. Depending on your budget, you may want to wait for the new Canon SX30IS which can zoom in farther than the P100 or FZ40. Canon cameras tend to produce more vivid looking colors, but just like the P100 and FZ40 it can be adjusted to your liking.

      Good luck in your decision!
