Recommended Lenses for Beginners

I often get asked Which lens is best for me?

My reply, is usually something like It depends on the types of subjects or scenes you’re most interested in shooting.

If you’re not exactly sure what to look for, I recommend you gallop on over to the Lens Talk for Beginners Forum and ask for some advice. We’ve got a wonderful community that loves to provide insightful recommendations for those who are just getting started with photography.

If you’ve narrowed down the list of lenses you’re most interested in, I encourage you to check out my Handy Dandy Visual Guides and Mini Reviews (below) which were hand crafted specifically for beginners like you (it’s ok if you don’t classify yourself as a “beginner”, you can still enjoy the guides…just don’t get too cocky).

Each visual guide illustrates and answers many of the questions you may have wondered about a particular lens. Towards the bottom of the guide, you’ll also find a mini-review which includes my thoughts on why I think the lens rocks and also offer up some things it’s not so great at.
