I found the battery, I have a plate mounted on the bottom of the camera for a tripod and it’s under it . I’m so sorry for this mistake but if it’s any consolation I love this camera sx30Is and have taken some great pictures with it. Thank You and again sorry to bother you.

PS I think you people are probably saying “this guy should not even have this camera”

HELP!! Why in LOW LIGHT setting..is it only 2megapixel?? I know I have used this setting in 14megapixel…but I don’t know what has changed. I use this setting because it seems to have a quicker shutter speed for continues shooting.

I’ve had my Canon Powershot SX30IS for almost a year now and love it. I am wondering though how I can make the focus of my pictures be the eyes. My sister-in-law has an SLR Canon (I’m not sure of the model) and says it automatically focuses on the eyes. This camera knows faces but I want it to specifically focus on the eyes. My only complaint about this camera is the manual – it has practically no information in it as far as I’m concerned. i printed it up but feel it is insufficient. Any help you can offer I would appreciate. Thanks.

Is there a way to lock the on/off button so that the camera does not turn itself on (from something accidentally touching the on/off) and flatten the battery? The on/off button is pretty exposed and I’ve had this happen a couple of times… Cannot find this info in a convenient way in the manual…

    Hi Moose
How can I take pictures of puppies “that are constantly moving”. Most of my pictures and blury. Which option should I use to get the fastest speed Thanks

You need a lot of light to compensate for the constant movement. If you use the shutter priority with about 1/250 speed or faster. Try with or without the flash, I do most photos like this both ways and the results are sometimes surprising.
Also don`t try to follow the movement with the camera, it will blur the backround, a tripod and wide angle is a good choice, you might want to do some cropping after to get the composition you want.

I bought this camera 4 days ago. And i love it.. But one thing How the hell do you use the timer? i can’t figure out how.. this is driving me crazy..

     Reply
    • Michel

Hopefully you have a tripod, push the bottom of the rotary wheel at the back, it will be 0, 2secs, 10secs, manual up to 30 seconds.
Press the shutter half way to get the focus, then press all the way and release, the timer will start as you release the shutter.
Make sure there is no movement during the picture taking process as it will create blurring.

I would like a manual for the SX30IS that I can have with me while I am away. I don’t want to have to sit in front of a computer or print a manual.

Is there a manual? I also would like to take a photography course – are there any you can recommend?

    Thank you

How can I get a real book / manual? I want something small I can hold in my hands no matter where I’m at. I don’t want to print full sheets of instructions off my computer….or be tied to the computer for instructions. Please, help me find a real book / manual.

Thank you for posting the manual. I did not receive one when I purchased the camera and for som reason could not download it from Canon.

Now that I am retired, I hope to learn how to fully utilize all features of this camera.

    Thank you.

    Hi Moose,
I just got this camera recently and already am in love with it, despite the fact that it confuses the heck out of me sometimes! I don’t get the manual focusing, for instance…can you use this feature anytime? And why is there only F8, seems like you can’t get a wide depth-of-field in zoom shots that way, or is F8 different with these new-fangled cameras? Also, the Program-mode completely mystifies me as I’m clueless how to navigate through it. Other than that, I’ve gotten lots of great photos already!

I’ve only had this camera a couple of days, wish it had a manual WITH it..so I can mark what I need to know with postits for in the field or the van..anyhow..I’d like to be able to just stick the SD card in a cardreader, to load on to my or friends computers when we are training our dogs to be able to just look at them with windows picture viewer. I get a message that won’t work. Do I need to ‘format’ the card…..
I’ll admit I’m not super smart on the computer but so far I’ve found the software hard to use. Appreciate any help !

      Howdy Jill,

Not sure I fully understand…do you have a photo gallery online (flickr, facebook, etc…) so I can see an example?
